NASCAR FEVER HITS NEW HAMPSHIRE
Thursday 06-26-2008 11:15am ET
Did you know Senators Obama and Clinton are coming to NH tomorrow? Maybe not but I bet you know there is a NASCAR race in Loudon this weekend. It amazes me how this sporting event takes over the state for nearly a week twice a year. My office sits on the highway, I have been watching the haulers and campers headed to the track - the number is growing each day. The one thing not many people realize is the amount of money is raised for charity during this event  - David's House, Girls Inc. are just some of the examples. A few years ago my daughters' day camp got a new NASCAR themed playground from the Home Depot Team. While it is good for the ecomony - it is also good to see a sport give so much back.

Observations from the Outside

Sorry it has taken me a few days to update section - the end of last week got crazy!

First I would like to say thank you to all the listeners who joined Charlie and I at Glenn Beck. The show was great! I had a lot of fun talking with you - it's nice to get a grown up night out every once and a while. We got home around at midnight so Thursday morning a little tough.

Thursday Senator John McCain came back to New Hampshire - while I did get a chance to attend the Town Hall in Nashua, more interesting was the ride from Boston to Nashua where a handful of reporters got the chance to sit with the presumptive Republican Presidential nominee for the ride and talk. Topics included, Iraq the economy and how tough it can be on the trail.

He was relaxed and had fun picking on reporters he got to know during the Primary. There was nothing new said, but the passion for the campaign was there. It will be an interesting few months.

Friday - I slept!

It is another week and summer is just about here, school willl be over soon and the kids can relax. I can't.... Ok there will be more trips to the beach - I can not wait!
I'm So Excited.........

Tonight Charlie and I are headed to Portland, Maine to see Glenn Beck's summer tour. We will be joined be a bus load of listeners, there are some surprises they don't even know about yet. Since being at WGIR I have become a Glenn Beck fan - twisted and sick at times - he makes me laugh and think. So if Charlie and I stumble a bit in the morning please forgive us - we will have very little sleep.

The Flag Issue is over. The person who was going to sue Wolfebor for hanging American flags down Main Street has withdrawn the case. Is that because there was no case? Maybe it was the political pressure he was getting from community. I hope so.

John McCain is coming back to NH - good I am in need of a Mac Attack! Hear what he has to say when the Republican Presidential presumtive nominee joins WGIR tomorrow morning at 7:20
FLAGS, FLAGS EVERYWHERE - THAT'S A GOOD THING TO ME
Tuesday 06-03-2008 7:28am ET
I can not tell you how upset I was to read the story about a man suing the town of Wolfeboro for displaying flags on utility poles in the downtown area. As many of you may know I went to high school in Wolfeboro and do consider it my "hometown. I have family there, including my sister who's son is currently in Iraq serving in the US Army. I will admit I have a personal connection to this story - my brother-in-law is one of those who volunteer time to ensure the flags are well cared for and replaced as needed. It is a sense of pride for him, a veteran himself, he is proud of his son and the many young people from the Wolfeboro area who have chosen to serve their nation. In December 2006 this small town gathered to honor a soldier killed in Iraq 22 year old Matthew Stanley was killed by a roadside bomb while serving in the US Army in Iraq. Wolfeboro is a small tight nit town, and it was a hard time for the community.  A flag does not mean you support the war itself, it means you love this country and all of the benefits of living here. Are things perfect? No. However as Americans we can vote for people we believe will make the changes, we can speak out against what we believe is wrong and we can criticize our leaders. That is not true in all countries and one more reason to support our men and women in the armed services. So the question today is what should happen in this case:

Memorial Day - Every Day...
Wednesday 05-28-2008 10:08am ET
This past weekend was beautiful and emotional all at the same time. I enjoyed time with my family - spent Sunday at Sky Show - and that is where the emotions came to the forefront. As I heard Gregg from the Morning Buzz talk on stage about thanking the men and women who are fighting for our freedom every day my mind wondered to my nephew, currently patrolling in Sadr City. Growing up Memorial Day while I knew what it was about, I did not have anyone close to me serving, so it was just a long weekend - that has all changed. I cry when I hear the National Anthem, I pray for his safety every day - and write and email of encouragement every day as well. He was recently home on R&R, something our troops in combat do not get enough of, so we got to hear some stories you would not hear on the news. He talked about the children he meets while on patrol, and his pride at knowing the US Troops are making a difference in their lives. He talked about being on patrol, a lot, and sleeping very little and of the brothers who were still there while he relaxed with family and friends. It was hard for him to be away knowing his "brothers" were at risk. It was a tough week in Sadr City. I learned that the troops need our letters and gifts more than we thought, and how having a family that sends boxes helps him keep grounded. The best story involving a care package we sent involved apple pies ( his favorite) we sent some of the boxed ones - packed carefully they made it.  His crew was having a bad day on patrol ( that is all he would say) he had a box from my family in the truck and decided to open it at the end of patrol - inside the apple pies - he tossed one to each member of his team and in his words the day took a 180. It is the small reminders of home that help he said - and knowing that he is loved and has a family who supports him makes a big difference. My daughters friends wrote letters to him one day - I just sent them along with some Girl Scout Cookies - it helps me to know I am putting a smile on his face - it helps my sister ( his mother) to know we are all there for her as well. So as the official Memorial Day ceremony takes place at Veteran's Cemetary on Friday I ask that you not only remember those who have served, but those who have served, and the families that care for them each and every day. I call my sister more now - just to say hit - it helps us both.

WELCOME TO SPRING/SUMMER
Monday 05-19-2008 8:24am ET
Hello the warm weather is finally here - but so are the risks. I spent the day in Moultonborough yesterday and low and behold tick season is off and running. I found six on myself, a few on my children and at least three on my husband after just one walk with the dog --- she had none thanks to the medication she receives. So a reminder to parents to check children when the play outside. Lymse disease is no fun even though it can be treated.

Summer also means SKYSHOW and yes WGIR AM will be there again, this time with Team Emma raising money for this great organization that raises money for children's cancer research. Please stop by the red tent and say hi to Charlie and myself.

Mothers Day
Thursday 05-08-2008 8:40am ET
Its almost here --- I was going into the mall last night and saw something that made me remember what is so great about this day at my house - there was a Dad and Daughter ( she was maybe 2) they were getting in the car and kept saying Mommy sshh!!!!! You could see the excitement on both the Dad and daughter's face about doing something special for Mom! So for all those years of keeping secrets thank you Pete and Girls!
